Tega AKINOLA

reimagining an old shop fit with Nike & tega…

Nike’s Re-Creation programme brings past products to life through the lens of local designers with a passion for up-cycling. The ethos is local. So local waste, in this case, surplus stock from Europe, designed locally by Tega Akinola, Manufactured locally in Enfield, North London and sold in West London.

To launch the Nike Re-Creation collaboration with Tega Akinola we reimagined an old shop fit and Co designed some trims and a shoebox carry case.

We took apart the previous re-creation shop fit, shred the plastic and made new sheet designs.

This sounds basic and like it happens all the time but the truth is our industry is so fast moving that quite often once a shop fit or promotional stand serves its purpose, it’s usually thrown out and on to the next one.

Some of the recycled plastic highlights included our modular clips used on a set of draws, a free standing modular stand, extruded beams for rails and bag stands, hand made S hooks and chunky CNC’d hangers; This Is Byron lathed some of our beams to create smooth finish to the bag stand.

We collaborated with talented maker Charlie Boyden to rebuild new freestanding fixtures, bag stands and clad the hero board and finally overlaid it all with explanatory graphics.

It’s never simple so thank you Charlie for being a true problem solver.

The collection came with over a year’s worth of development and featured 00’s inspired bags, tee’s, adjustable pants, skirts and tops in limited numbers at Westfield, London.

The assortment of bags was a clever move as these items are often left out of Nike’s merchandising due to licensing. One of the highlights was a tote bag that utilises the placket of a puffer jacket as a pocket. The apparel pieces were super limited and sold out fast!

We loved imagining what these products were in their past life.

Design was a collaboration between us & the Nike EMEA team, the project was led by Nike Global. Shout to all Nike London peoples involved too, especially Ken, Matt and the team that worked through the night on the install with us.
