EBAY X BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION
rENEW AND REFRESH…
Are You Mad pulled a bunch of clothes donated to the British Heart Foundation that couldn’t be sold in their shops. No one wanted them.
They were en route to be sent to other countries, maybe recycling or perhaps landfill or incineration on the way.
They were the deadest bits in the shop.
We asked ourselves “how can we save them?”…
REPURPOSE
WITH PURPOSE
WE SWITCHED UP THE GARMS WITH THE HELP OF LOCAL SUSTAINABLE DESIGNERS, RENEWING AND REFRESHING THEM, INJECTING LIFE BACK INTO THEM SO THEY COULD BE WORN AND LOVED AGAIN.
FIRST THEY NEEDED CLEANING
We separated natural materials like cotton for the washing machine.
Next we separated synthetics to wash in a guppy bag to limit the amount of micro plastics entering the water system.
Once the clothes were clean we started taking them apart, cutting and unpicking panels, taking out zips and buttons and saving pieces that we could resew later on.
COLLABORATE WITH CARE
We TEAMED UP WITH DESIGNER LYDIA BOULTON TO REIMAGINE ONE OF OUR SHIRTS.
Lydia added buttons crafted from recycled DVD cases, refreshed a sleeve and added bold graphics to give new life to the discarded garment.
STAG & BOW SMASHED TOGETHER A VARSITY STYLE JACKET MADE FROM SOME OLD DICKIES.
The jeans were in a bad way with broken hardwear and rips around the bottom. The new garm was given corduroy sleeves from a vintage pull over and over coat and lining from a high street flannel shirt. It was finished off with ChainSnitch “Wasteman” stitching and classic hand drawn branding all made in London.
ALWAYS GIVING BACK
Each piece worked on was one of a kind and dropped for sale on British Heart Foundation’s Ebay store where we made sure that all proceeds were donated straight back to the British Heart Foundation to continue their good work.
By repairing and remaking we can keep unsold clothing out of landfill and in love and circulation.
Mad that 1 in 4 people don’t know how to sew on a button and keep their own clothes in good nick, here’s Lydia showing how to do it.
